Rhinoflux Inc. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Japan; CEO: Atsushi Alex Mazawa; hereinafter "the Company") has initiated a demonstration experiment. This experiment aims to utilize biomass resources such as tea and coffee grounds generated during the manufacturing process of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Karin Dragan; hereinafter "Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan"). The objective is to recover clean electricity (*1) and high-purity CO₂ and utilize them as manufacturing power for the plant. This initiative utilizes our proprietary "Hydro Chemical Looping Technology" (*2) to recover clean electricity and high-purity CO₂ (99.9% purity) from biomass such as tea and coffee grounds generated during the manufacturing process at Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan's plants. The objective is to repurpose this recovered energy as manufacturing power for the plants.Overview of the selected demonstration project Beginning in 2026, tea and coffee grounds produced during the manufacturing process at the Kyoto Plant will be fed continuously into our small-scale demonstration unit (*3). This will evaluate and verify its performance in generating approximately 1kW of electricity and recovering high-purity CO₂.The "Hydro Chemical Looping Technology" is capable of processing biomass derived from moist raw materials, which were previously difficult to reuse. This makes it suitable for processing tea and coffee grounds generated during beverage manufacturing. Additionally, its compact equipment facilitates space-efficient processing, enabling on-site treatment within factory premises. This contributes to reducing transportation costs and CO₂ emissions. Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan has implemented comprehensive waste management practices, including the promotion of waste separation and recycling across all 17 of its facilities. By the end of 2024, the recycling rate for tea and coffee grounds as fertilizer or feed had already reached 100%. This initiative, which employs advanced technology, aims to recycle these materials into higher-value-added forms and reintegrate them into the manufacturing process.*1: Clean ElectricityElectricity generated from natural energy sources, such as wind, geothermal, and solar power, is a sustainable form of energy that does not emit CO₂ during the generation process.*2: Hydro Chemical Looping TechnologyThis technology efficiently and economically recovers electricity and CO₂ from biomass by utilizing the oxidation and reduction reactions of metal ions in aqueous solutions. In comparison to conventional technologies, it is capable of handling wet feedstocks, offers higher power generation efficiency, and enables plant installation on desired sites due to its compact scale.*3: A small-scale prototype model measuring 1bedt in size, completed in January 2025, with an output of approximately 1 kW, capable of processing approximately 500g-dry of biomass per hour.
